Pelican vs 2 headed Cobra

Tonight was awesome, it was a triple feature at the Troubadour--Sweet Cobra, Black Cobra, and Pelican. Amazing sets by all 3 bands. I was impressed with Sweet Cobra and Black Cobra! It was Sweet Cobra's first time to the West Coast and the 2nd time I've seen Black Cobra (Spaceland). Pelican slayed and they played tunes mostly off of the new album (which I bought the CD/DVD pkg). I told the drummer that I recorded their set (Sweet Cobra) and he hooked me up with their 1st CD!!! I recorded all sets as 24bit/48kHz recordings. Altho, I stayed primarily on the left hand side of the stage for Pelican, the guitar for Trevor were louder than on the right hand side of the stage, so the mix might not be the best. But another buddy recorded from the center of the stage in front of the band, so hopefully if mine doesn't come out so well, that I'll trade for his recording... I'll try to get all the sets uploaded in a timely manner... SHIT, I have to do the Jesus Lizard show too. Sorry folks to keep you waiitng. I'll do my best to get to that this weekend!

Exhausted...

I just put up the Maserati set opening for Mono 10/13/09. They played their most recent releases and it was a stella set by them. So glad that Maserati had this opportunity to open for Mono--they gained a new audience at this show . Enjoy this set:

Past 2 Nites

2 nights ago I saw Intronaut, 16, and Destroy Judas on Saturday the 17th. Last night I saw Dysrhythmia and National Sunday Law. I had to leave soon after the set for Dysrhythmia because I have to get ready for a septoplasm this morning. I'm not to eat or drink anything after midnight this morning... NOT even water!!! Well, I survived but now I feel like I have sort of a hangover from not having water in my system. Anyways, I have to leave soon. Take care all as I will too.

Please be patient cause hopefully I'll have time to work on my shows while I stay at home all week after my op.

Maserati/Jesus Lizard/SDRE

Status:

Maserati is awaiting 2 songs that need names, I just emailed Coley to see if he can help me out with these brand new tunes. Keeping fingers crossed that he'll give me the ok to release the whole set as well. The whole show is ready to go and once the song titles are known, then upload to server!!!

Jesus Lizard is not spliced and diced yet.

SDRE: 3 shows thanks to Luke79 who asked me to eq these for him. The recent Tempe show, Troubadour show from 2000 and Vegas 2000. Going to work on Tempe first...

This weekend: 2 more shows on Saturday (Intronaut, 16, Destroy Judas) and Sunday (Dysrhythmia, Nat'l Sunday Law and Solar Wimp)!!!

2 Nites Ago

Saw the great Maserati open for Mono last Tuesday on a rainy night. Not sure if it was sold out, but it filled up pretty good that evening. This'll be a short posting but I got a bit sick going into Mono's set, I was tired from my 5th night of concerts in a span of a week! Felt a bit nauseous that forced me to leave the show early unfortunately. Met some cool ppl, glad I was able to record all of Maserati and a bit of Mono (~20min). I'm a 21 year old trapped inside of a 34 year old body, I guess that's my only guess for why I felt so nauseous. To the Mono fans, I apologize. I hope that some Mono fans are now Maserati fans from Tuesday night's wonderful performance.

Off to see the Jesus Lizard. Signing out!

Last Night's sets! Pt Deux

It's been since June that tickets went on sale and that Sunny Day Real Estate's tour was announced. I didn't expect it to sell out as fast as it did, which only took 2 days after it was announced. So I didn't have a ticket to this show for 2 months until I bumped into a KCC classmate and told her my predicament for SDRE a few weeks ago. Upon discussing my hectic "Rocktober" month, I told her my woes of not having a ticket to one of my favorite bands. Well, she said with a smile I have your ticket!!! Turns out another classmate's sister works for Ticketmaster and got 2 tickets for himself and her. Unfortunately, the day of the show, my classmate was flying in to LAX from Tokyo that day and she said she would be exhausted from the flight and the jet lag. SO I lucked out in getting a ticket. Plus I owe her face value for the ticket, thank goodness!

A couple days ago I get an email from a buddy who I haven't seen in awhile since the last Jane's Addiction show @ the Echoplex in February. He's an awesome photographer and pretty much likes most of the bands I like. SO, he had an extra ticket for Saturday, Anaheim's show and yesterday's, Henry Fonda show. WOAH! I couldn't go to Saturday's SDRE show since I was seeing Far and These Arms Are Snakes @ the Knitting Factory. But I made a few phone calls to see who would be able to buy the tix off him. I did have a buddy who claimed the LA ticket thankfully! At least he was able to sell the tix at the Anaheim show with no hitches.

So, last night was amazing, I was happy to hear my faves of LP2, "Iscarabaid" and "Theo B." Other LP2 songs they opened w/"Friday," played "5/4" and ended the night w/"J'nuh." Since this tour was in support of their remastered reissues, they of course played a majority of "Diary." Pretty sweet night. I was looking forward to "Spade and Parade" but that was skipped in last night's set. Well, why don't you just download the set for free and check it out yourself!!!

Last Night's sets!!!

Well, last night was great all around!!! Saw Touche Amore, Far, and These Arms Are Snakes at the Knitting Factory. How? I tell you it was convenient that Knitting Factory has 3 stages; Main Stage was Touche Amore, Far, and Thursday (which I skipped); Front Stage was DD/MM/YYYY (couldn't make), and These Arms Are Snakes. Thank goodness that TAAS was only $10. Not bad, not bad!

Far electrified the night by opening the set with "The System." They played mostly off Water & Solutions and a few from Tin Cans. Unfortunately they didn't unveil any new songs, which was what I was hoping for.

i already spliced and eq'd both Far & These Arms Are Snakes, they just need to be tagged and uploaded, which I'll do tomorrow!!!

I'll write up more later, I have to get ready to leave for LA for tonight's Sunny Day Real Estate show...

Caved In

Last night's Cave In show!!!

V0/mp3

I added the Cave In set this morning and going to append to this particular part of my blog to say that the show was a success!!! Cave In played first followed by Coalesce, which I also recorded. Haven't worked on that show yet, their set suffered some mixing problems early during the beginning of their set unfortunately. I'll eventually release it, but don't expect it to sound as good as my other boots. People at the show will be witness to that as well as what you'll hear in the recording. The guitars were extremely low in the mix at the beginning of Coalesce's set and the fans pretty much had to yell to Daniel the sound guy (and Mr. Church of the 8th Day). The vocals also were low at the start of the set as well. This will have been my first hearing of Coalesce although I did purchase the covers album and a split w/Boy Sets Fire @ the Vacation Vinyl store. Just haven't spun them yet, but the Coalesce set was as hardcore as anyone can get. All members of the band were animated, particularly the guitarist as he threw his arms wildly about and switches rapidly into guitar playing mode for a brief second. The singer of Coalesce was yelling his larnyx out of his throat. All members were involved in their own groove but it was cohesive as a whole.

For Cave In, I wish I had seen them more in the past, but I never did. Last night's show was my first Cave In show and hopefully more will come in the future. Cave In were amazing last night, full of energy and were gracious to thank the people of Scion for hosting the show @ the Knitting Factory. Sadly enough, this will be the last Scion show @ the Knitting Factory. The line was long of course and I believe everyone got in. My only complaint was how they handled the guestlist for the people who signed up @ Vacation Vinyl on the exclusive list was terrible. Well, the show made up for that and that will be the last FREE Knitting Factory show through Scion. More on Cave In, they played an awesome mix of old, new and in between! It was a balancing act that they had to do to please the audience.

A picture of the setlist! Thanks Kingsleep!

Tonight I will have respite till tomorrow for I will see Far @ the Knitting Factory opening for Thursday. That's in the main stage, but the front stage has These Arms Are Snakes and if times don't conflict I'll try to catch TAAS as well after Far!!! Then Sunday I have Sunny Day Real Estate, which I am ecstatic about!!!
